Knowledge Management Lab
Our Origins
A Journey of Practical Wisdom Since 1998
Our origins trace back to 1998, with practical initiatives launched within Basic Inc. Driven by the philosophy of being "intellectual infrastructure architects rather than just consultants," we have spent over 25+ years refining our approach through real-world practice.
What we have cultivated with 1,500+ organizations is "wisdom that works in the field," not just academic theory. Our consistent pursuit of tacit knowledge formalization, reproducibility, and human resource development through our "Practical Knowledge Education" approach represents our greatest asset.
Our Leadership
Yuko TAHARA, Ph.D.
Representative Director & Chief Knowledge Architect
As Representative Director of Basic Inc. and Professor at Graduate School of Social Design, she leads the knowledge management field through both academic research and practical implementation.
Her Frame & Work Module®, developed and refined over 25+ years, has earned recognition through METI-supported Japan Management Association awards (3 research paper honors), "Consultant of the Year 2023," and "Program Innovator of the Year 2024."
Our Mission
From Tacit Knowledge to Shared Social Intelligence
Our mission is to transform individual tacit knowledge into shared social intelligence, enabling human-centric value creation across organizations and societies.
We convert experience-based tacit knowledge into structured, shareable knowledge, contributing to sustainable development. Transforming individual "I know" into organizational "We can do," our ultimate role is to design "intellectual infrastructure" for society, bridging corporations, education, public sectors, and international fields.
Our Vision
Toward a World Where People Grow, Knowledge Circulates, and Societies Remain Connected
We envision a world where human knowledge and experience are valued beyond national, cultural, and industrial boundaries.
Through employment, education, and organizational development, we enable everyone to work with dignity and pursue lifelong learning in an inclusive society. A future where people grow, knowledge circulates, and societies remain connected—this is our vision.
Our Five
Core Values
1. Human-Centric: We start with human thinking, judgment, and experience—not just technology. In the era of generative AI, the Human-In-The-Loop (HITL) approach ensures humans remain at the center of the learning cycle.
2. Formalization with Respect: We visualize tacit knowledge in ways that benefit both individuals and society, without exploitation.
3. Practical Wisdom: We value knowledge that is usable, teachable, and sustainable in real-world contexts.
4. Bridging Cultures & Sectors: We serve as a bridge across industries, education, public sectors, and nations.
5. Long-term Impact: We build intellectual foundations that endure across generations.
